Twelfth Night: 1941 (A Staged Reading)

Directed by Ellyn Heald

Sunday, May 31, 2026 | 4pm | El Barrio’s Artspace 215 E 99th Street New York NY 10029

London, January 5, 1941. The Twelfth Night of Christmas.

Inspired by real events during the 1941 Blitz when actors performed Shakespeare amid air raids, Twelfth Night: 1941 follows a Shakespearean troupe determined to stage an 80-minute Twelfth Night for the benefit of their community just days after a devastating bombing. With their theater destroyed, rationing in full force, and a contraband Twelfth Night cake in tow, they move the show to a local pub, proving that even in wartime, the play must go on.

Join us on Sunday, May 31st at 4pm for this free staged reading. Produced in partnership with The Shakespeare Forum.
